Medical Travel to Shanghai

Shanghai pairs JCI-calibre hospitals with the easiest international access in mainland China: more direct long-haul flights, more English-speaking clinical staff, and a foreign community that has been settled here for a century.

What this city is known for

Neurosurgery · Oncology · Cardiology · Aesthetic and dental medicine · Health screening

Huashan and Ruijin are the two names international patients ask for most often. The city is also the best-connected for anyone flying in from Europe, the Gulf or Southeast Asia, and it has the widest choice of international-standard private clinics for checkups and outpatient care.

Getting there & practicalities

Pudong (PVG) has the widest long-haul network in China; Hongqiao (SHA) handles most domestic and regional flights. Visa-free transit of up to 240 hours applies at both. For treatment stays longer than that we arrange the hospital invitation letter for an M or S visa. Spring (March–May) and autumn (October–November) are the best seasons.
